Working in education

Careers in the field of Education come in many flavors and varieties. Most of us just think of teaching positions when considering a job in education. There are many positions available in education that do not require a teaching credential, or any classroom involvement.
For example, if your resume shows your solid background in business, do not overlook the education section when searching career sites. Colleges and Universities are Institutions of Higher Education and have many positions available that your business knowledge could be put to good use. Financial Aid is a vital area for most Higher Education Institutions. Your background in business could be the ideal fit for positions within the Financial Aid Departments. Remember, most Colleges and Universities rely on Financial Aid in the form of loans, scholarships, and grants, as their major source of income. Another example is using your resume filled with customer service related jobs allows you to emphasize those skills to become an Academic Advisor at a College or University. There are many education related positions available in School District Offices, County Offices of Education, and at the State and Government levels for individuals with diverse backgrounds.
Your resume should reflect keywords used in the education position for which you wish to apply. Often these keywords include ‘Best Practices’, ‘Rigorous Standards and Practices’, ‘Fully Qualified Educator’, and other terms that apply broadly throughout the education industry. If your strengths include logical, progressive thinking abilities, be sure that your resume reflects those talents. Credential Analysts are needed in nearly every area of education, but that position requires strong abilities in analyzing and evaluating documents as well as people. There is little or no tolerance for mistakes or errors in this area, so place emphasis on projects you have done that reflect successful qualities with measurable results.
If you are interested in pursuing careers in the field of education, or looking for ways to fund your own education, this is a great field to pursue. Many Colleges and Universities will provide free education to their employees, and free or reduced tuition costs to the employee’s immediate family members. This is an ideal way to obtain a teaching credential without paying high tuition fees, and it has the added benefit of interacting with school district personnel who can prove to be invaluable contacts to find a teaching position once you have obtained your credential!
Do not limit your future by limiting your job search to a narrow range defined only by what your current career may require. Jobs in education are available to individuals from every industry. Use your resume as a flexible tool to place particular emphasis on skills required by a job posting in the education field. You may find that taking a job in education allows you a platform to use as a springboard to a Bachelor or Masters Degree in nearly any degree plan offered, and may open doors to careers that may previously have appeared out of your reach. A job in education may prove to be the best career choice for your live and your entire future.
Injuries from work
May 16, 2012|employees, Employers, Interesting Facts| No comments yet
Injuries from work can be really difficult to handle. If you are not prepared for them, they can be devastating. For example, if you don’t have disability insurance or critical illness insurance, you will be completely unprotected when you get into an accident.
Injuries from work are quite rare in white-collar jobs, but they are much more prominent in blue-collar jobs. If your family works hard to put food on the table with their back-breaking labor, then they can be horribly heartbroken when they get injuries from work. They cannot use their minds to earn income. They cannot use their mental skills to earn cash. That means that injuries from work will completely take them off the job market. If the injuries are serious enough, they will really be in trouble. If the injuries are minor, they may be able to recover and get another job soon.
Too many people really haven’t thought about the need to get disability insurance and critical illness insurance, but they really should. It is almost a necessity for blue-collar families, especially where only one member of the family is a breadwinner.
Injuries from work may be covered under your company’s health plan. Check before you start working with them. Make sure that you can get compensation if you get hurt.
If you are a freelancer or an independent contractor, it can be particularly devastating if you get injuries from work. Your employer may not have any compensation for you. You will just be one more guy looking for work. That would be a terrible fate for you. You would be hard-pressed to survive in that position.
Families that suffer injuries from work will want to have some sort of savings set aside so that they can last 6 months or more while the injuries heal. This will also give other people in the family a chance to get a job and help pay for things. Everyone can pull together if there is enough time, but there is usually not enough time, because there is not enough savings set aside. If there is not enough savings set aside, then the family will be completely hurt by injuries from work.
Business trips
May 15, 2012|employees, Employers, Tips At work| No comments yet
One of the best ways to impress your potential employers is to indicate in your resume that you are willing to embark on business trips for your organization. Job bosses love applicants or workers who would be ready at a moment’s notice to embark on business trips, and those who could show considerable travel experience related to their line of work. In order to be able to obtain that dream job, here are the few things you have to know about business travels before submitting that resume for job consideration:
1. Indicate your willingness to travel: Your resume speaks for you in many areas, and it shows the need to either call you for a further interview meeting or not. Your resume must indicate that you are willing to make business travels to further the interests of your would-be company. This gives employers the assurance that their business would never suffer when it comes to traveling urgently to tie up some loose ends.
2. Indicate your travel experiences: It is wise to indicate how far you have traveled in your job resume, and this will enable job bosses to rate your suitability and experience to their business needs. The more you have traveled in a business-related fashion, the more travel experience you are bringing to the table and the more it indicates that you could handle any off-shore business needs on your own.
3. Goal-getter: When your resume indicates how far traveled you are in the line of your previous businesses, it indicates to employers that you can work alone in far-away places and still achieve results in record time. It shows you are at home anywhere you find yourself, and it establishes your suitability for job consideration and expertise.
4. Working beyond schedules: To many extents, your job resumes give ideas whether you can work beyond your given time schedule or not, and this goes for business trips. The more extensive you have outlined your business travel experiences in your resume, the more it indicates that you are able to give all it takes to make your job and your organization succeed. It shows you will work extra time without being forced in open fields to ensure the successes of your assignments, and this definitely endears you to employers and job bosses for job considerations.
Lastly, your job resumes must indicate your business travel experiences and outline how it could benefit your new and potential employers.
Tips for securing an internship at Google
May 14, 2012|employees, Tips At work| No comments yet
An internship at Google is something many people apply for and something that very few actually manage to get. Google is renowned world-wide for how they treat their employees, for their employee-friendly facilities and unique methods of fostering workplace teamwork. The salary isn’t bad either. Google accepts student interns from many disciplines, be it it Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Advanced Mathematics, Physics and a considerable amount of other subjects. Students who have any amount of experience in multiple fields are recommended to apply because of the diverse way Google operates.
At a Google internship, you’ll learn how one of the largest companies in the world operates. You’ll be expected to perform for at least three months’ worth of full-time work.
Needless to say, Google internships are not the easiest things in the world to land. There’s a few simple things that you can do in order to improve your chances that you’ll get one if you can successfully make it to the interview stage.
Remember to be confident above all else. Don’t ever panic. One of the people who interviews interns as his job posted that he likes to ask questions to potential interns simply to see if they’ll get nervous or otherwise “freak out.” In order to understand why this happens, you must first know that Google has a very high turn away rate and an even higher “false negative” rate. Interviewers will oft times turn away qualified people because it’s better to turn away potentially unqualified people than hire one at all.
Thus, the need for confidence arises. If you’ve made it to the interview portion of trying to get an internship with Google, you’re likely qualified. If you get asked a math question or something that you might not have the slightest clue about, try to answer it anyway. If you don’t know what the answer is, talk about how good you are at learning what’s required for the job and then talk about your grades if the question applies to a subject. If you’re in an interview for an internship at Google, and this can’t be said enough, you’re likely more than qualified already because you’ve got your foot in the door. So all you need to do is prove it.
There are also two things that you never want to do: Never tell the interviewer what is important for their company and never tell the person interviewing you how to conduct the process. Those are two marks that will instantly earn you strikes. The person interviewing you already works for the company and furthermore, unless they ask you for your opinion, already know what their company needs. It makes sense when you think about it, but you wouldn’t believe how many people make these mistakes at an interview.
The only other real big thing you need to make sure you’re able to answer is a few questions about how data structures and such work. If “Computer Science” is on your resume, you’ll likely be expected to know about any number of general theories. Just knowing general theories is generally enough to get you by with an interviewer. The last word of wisdom is that if you fail and get turned down for your Google internship position, don’t feel discouraged. Re-apply in six months and try again because you may have just gotten an interviewer that didn’t like you or you may have been having a bad day.
Job interview done by skyping
May 13, 2012|employees, Employers, Tips At work| No comments yet
Everyone should be able to write a resume. It is essential for anyone who is in the job market or thinking about getting started. It is not as easy as it was several years ago and because the job market is so competitive right now, the resume needs to be first class. It is the first thing a potential employer sees and will often mean the difference between getting an interview or not.
When someone is looking for any kind of job, it is important to have a resume. Although most companies will ask someone to fill out an application, they still like to see a resume. The resume should be attached to the completed app.
The resume needs to fit the job that the person is applying for. For example, if someone wants to work at a fast food restaurant, it is not a good idea to include the fact that they have a doctorate from a well know college. Although that is a good thing to have, for this particular job, it proves that the applicant might be overqualified and thus not stay at the position very long. When someone is applying to work in the homecare field, they might not mention that they are a professional rodeo trainer. In other words, match the resume to the job.
Once the resume is sent in, it might take several days to hear back from the business looking for the new employee. Sometimes they will respond by e-mail stating that the position has been filled.
If the business would like to have an interview, they are usually interested but often they have several people to look at. The interview process can be tedious and stressful. If the applicant lives close by, they might ask the prospective employee to come in and talk to a panel of people with a set of questions. They usually ask every applicant the same things. The interview will be about an hour long.
If the prospective employee can not come to the interview, many companies are skyping. It is a good way for everyone to see each other on the camera and not have to travel in order to have an interview. When skyping, it is a good idea to have a clear camera in a quiet room. Check it all out before the actual skype call. The microphone needs to be loud enough so everyone can understand each thing that is said.
This is a great way for the final interview to happen. Most people like to see the applicant in person. More and more companies are using this helpful way to complete the interview process. It is necessary to have a web cam to do this and if one is not available, it is a good idea to borrow one. Remember, the job market is competitive at this point and people are using cutting edge techniques to complete the process. Skyping is now an important part of the job search market.
