A gynecologist and similar obstetrician study the female reproductive system including the vagina, the ovaries and the uterus. An obstetrician studies the female organs in their pregnant state, while an gynecologists studies the female organs in their non-pregnant state. The study of obstetrics and gynecology are combined to form one area of medical specialty, often referred to as OB/GYN.
