Is Successful Career Only for a Man?

Saying that a successful career is only for a man would be like saying that a successful career is only for a man over 6 feet tall. Men and women of all ages, with all types of educational backgrounds have successful careers. There is definitely ‘living proof’ of that fact. In some instances, men are paid more for comparable jobs, yet there are times when a woman is compensated more highly. Unless the job is defined in some way as ‘gender specific,’ only individual qualifications, including education, work experience and availability should ever be a consideration for employment.

There are fields of study and areas of employment that seem to be dominated by men or by women, though they appear to be a mix of each in every job sector. There may be certain fundamental requirements that allow for a greater gender success, such as an ability to lift a certain weight or a job defined as ‘cocktail waitress.’ Certain women can lift great weights and at times, a man may convince the lounge to hire a ‘cocktail waiter.’

How much one earns by way of his or her job is generally defined by the job classification itself. Certain job titles carry with them certain salaries. Experience in the industry creates yet another wage bracket or salary range.

Most successful people choose a field of study that they love and can imagine themselves being devoted employees or very successful entrepreneurs for a lifetime. Primarily, it is the love of what one does that evolves into what is classed as successful. When deciding whether a successful career is only for a man, it is extremely important to define the word ‘successful.’ What makes a person feel valuable?

If you believe that men and women have equal rights, if someone asks if you’re feminist, you have to say yes because that is how words work.

The job itself may be the real value added to one’s life and not the yearly salary. A woman or a man who raises children well may feel complete and valuable, while others do not always see him or her that way. Our success is subjective and is very hard for people to define. Happiness and joy may be success. Career fulfillment or money may equate with success. There are so many variables which go into just how a person feels about oneself.

There are various ways to “get ahead” in any field or endeavor. Education, dedication, interview techniques and presentation of skills via a well-constructed resume are all factors of future success. All people deserve to be successful and to see themselves through that mirror image.

Work for Free and Gain Important Experience

Volunteering is traditionally seen as something people do to help those who are less fortunate. Opportunities for volunteers exist in just about every social service organization and many for-profit companies also offer unpaid internships and apprenticeships. Working for free is not just for the altruistic. The experience you can gain from volunteering is only limited by the amount of effort you invest in yourself.

When you volunteer for a company, you are essentially working for free. Do not take your volunteer position for granted. The company that gives you a volunteer position does so because they need a service that you can provide. Volunteers are used for everything from feeding the homeless to designing websites. Because you won’t get cash payment for your services, it is important that you gain valuable experience from your work.

The company that you work for will likely try to match your skills with their needs. If you are volunteering because you need a legitimate work history for your resume, it is perfectly fine to do something you are already skilled at. However, if you seek volunteer work to gain knowledge and experience, you will want to try something new.

Organizations that use volunteers sometimes offer free training. The organization and the volunteers benefit from this training. By training the volunteer workforce, the organization benefits because its volunteers know exactly what to do. Volunteers benefit from the training by learning skills that can be carried over to a paid position.

Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.

Sherry Anderson

If you are unsure whether or not you want to pursue a particular career, volunteering in that industry can give you valuable information. By simply donating some of your free time to work in the field, you can either find out that it is not for you or gain valuable contacts in the industry. These contacts can serve as mentors or references in future job searches.

Volunteer work is an important addition to any resume. Even if you have paid work experience, volunteer work should not be downgraded on your resume. By showing a future employer that you will be willing to donate your time and expertise, you prove that you have the initiative they are looking for in an employee.

Sedentary Job? No Way!

In today’s computer driven world, more jobs are playing into the sedentary lifestyle that defines modern America. However, there are still jobs that get people up and moving and can even help people stay in shape.

Here is a brief list of some of these jobs and the things that one can expect to do in them.

Personal Trainer

A personal trainer helps others achieve their fitness goals. Because the job is exercise driven, one must be fit and healthy to do this job well. Maintaining a high fitness level and a healthy lifestyle will help attract clients and provide a strong model for them to admire. Jogging, weight training, and even yoga may be among the daily activities of a personal trainer.

Chef

Chefs are always on their feet as they move about the kitchen preparing food for their diners. A chef must have impeccable culinary skills, a creative mind and an untiring spirit. Being a chef is a fast-paced and energetic career that any active, food-minded person may enjoy. To get a good job in this field, job training and certification from a culinary program is essential.

Parks and Recreation/Landscaping Jobs

If you enjoy being outside and working with plants, these jobs may be ideal for you. They do require a fair amount of physical labor, so a strong back is a must. You can expect to use heavy machinery for mowing and cleaning landscapes and planting flowers and shrubs to beautify yards and parks.

Don’t pick a job with great vacation time. Pick one that doesn’t need escaping.

Nanny

A nanny job may not be the best paying gig out there, but it’s certainly active. No one knows how to move all day long like children. As a nanny, you can expect to run and play, make lunches, and drive the children to lessons and other activities. Some nannies may also have light cleaning or laundry duty. Even if you do nothing but play with the children all day, you’ll feel that you put in a full and active day.

Field Service Technician

Many companies, especially utility companies, need people in the field to make repairs or answer customer calls. Many of these types of jobs will require a great deal of local travel as you drive from place to place. This means a constant change of scenery and never having the same day twice.

Construction jobs

Most construction jobs will have workers outside on a day-to-day basis. If you like to work with your hands and be outside, these jobs will be great for you. They combine building or remodeling with an outdoor atmosphere. Like landscaping jobs, these will require heavy lifting and manual labor, so a strong body is a must.

These jobs provide an opportunity to be outside in the fresh air while using your hands or bodies in a much more active way than the typical office job. These are ideal jobs for people who would feel too restless and pent up by doing a sedentary job that keeps them tied to a computer all day.

Interesting Jobs in Great Britain: What could you do?

People are always looking for jobs, even in good economic times. In today’s difficult economic climate in Great Britain, however, you would be forgiven for simply looking for any kind of job, never mind an interesting one. That said, too many studies to count have shown that one of the keys to long term success is finding a job that you find interesting. As a result, even if you are in a difficult economic time or region of the country, it is still worth keeping an eye out for a job that will make you happy to get up in the morning. Here is a guide to some of the most interesting jobs one can find with the right credentials and a stroke of luck in Great Britain.

I was very careful never to take an interesting job. If you have an interesting job, you get interested in it.

Mary Oliver

Biomedical engineer

Biomedical engineers work to apply their knowledge of a range of biological, medical, biomechanical, and engineering techniques to solving complex problems and making the world a healthier place. Many of the neat things you hear about in the news in terms of new surgical procedures or inventions in hospitals come from the work of biomedical engineers. Whether you’re designing proteins to attack terrible diseases or simply making new drugs that make life a little easier for people all over the globe, it’s a job that will allow you to feel like you’re making a difference every single day, and that’s hard to beat.

Pilot

It’s hard to have a boring day at work when your job involves flying airplanes all over the world. Pilots have some of the most interesting jobs in Great Britain and in the world, for that matter. It takes a lot of training and a keen eye to work as a pilot, but it’s hard to beat it if you’re looking for a job that will take you all over Europe and all over the globe.

Just keep in mind that you might not get to spend nearly as much time at home as you would like to, so think carefully before approaching this career if you want to have a traditional 9-5 job and a family, as both will be more than a little challenging as a pilot.

Registered nurse

Doctors may get all the fame, but without registered nurses, they wouldn’t be able to do much of anything. Registered nurses are among the most important men and women in hospitals, and they often have far more interaction with the average patient than his or her doctor ever will.

As a registered nurse, you’ll get to work with people from all walks of life, draw blood, treat just about every part of the body, and give people the kind of comfort they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. Among the jobs on this list, it’s got to be the most honorable one a person could hope to aspire to. The pay isn’t as good as that of a pilot or a biomedical engineer, but it will be more than enough to keep you and your loved ones fed.
