New part time job: Telemarketing

One of the hottest new career fields is the world of telemarketing. Depending on the position or the company, you might work at a dedicated call center or work from your own home. Telemarketers typically work in a sales-related field, taking orders from customers. Telemarketing actually involves four different types of work: lead generation, sales, inbound work and outbound work.

Inbound jobs are one of the easiest tasks because you do not make any calls yourself. With inbound calls, you work at a call center for a major retailer or company. Companies that use the inbound system include credit card companies, department stores and mail-order retailers. When you page through a catalogue or look at a store’s website, check the toll-free number associated with phone orders. When you call that number, you reach a worker that accepts your order. Working in an inbound job means that you accept the call from the customer, input that information into the computer and process the order. You never make any calls on behalf of the company because the customers call the toll-free number.

Outbound calls are completely different because these jobs require that you make the calls yourself. You might work for a hospital or mechanic that attempts to collect debts owed by past customers. You might work for a newspaper or magazine company that solicits orders over the phone. Some charitable organizations call people at random to gain donations for the organization.

If people like you, they’ll listen to you, but if they trust you they’ll do business with you.

Sales jobs are another form of telemarketing. The point of sales jobs is to get potential customers to place an order within minutes after you call. Depending on the position, you either cold call customers or work from an established list. With cold calling, you contact random people in the hopes of turning those people into customers. When you work with an established list, you only contact those that expressed interest in making a purchase in the past.

Telemarketing also includes something referred to as lead generation. With lead generation, you focus on getting sales leads for a specific company. This involves cold calling customers and convincing those people that the company you work for is the best. Stock brokers, retailers of diet products and mail order companies often use lead generation specialists. You do not make any direct sales yourself, but rather find people willing to discuss making a purchase later. The jobs typically pay a set amount based on each lead that you find. Some companies pay you based on the sales that person makes later. You can make quite a bit by finding the best possible leads.

Telemarketing positions usually do not require much experience in the field. Even if you never worked as a telemarketer before, you can still find a good-paying job. When you apply for the job, focus on the sales and customer service related aspects of your previous jobs. Companies that hire telemarketers want employees that can make sales, but also people that have experience working over the phone or working directly with customers. By emphasizing your past customer service roles, you can help yourself land that job.

Working in Aviation: Job Opportunities

Maintenance

Aviation maintenance positions are for the mechanical and technician worker. Some of the opportunities included are inspectors, sheet metal, interior instructors, fuel tank mechanics, avionics technicians, structures and composites technicians. A maintenance worker or technician who graduated from an Aviation Maintenance Technician school will usually earn more than those who haven’t.

A&P Maintenance

A&P Maintenance are a big majority of the maintenance required for a civilian aircraft. A&P Maintenance is a mixture of airframe and power plant mechanics that work on all parts of the aircraft with the exception of the instruments. This field is expected to have many openings after considering the expected job growth and the decreasing number of people in the field. Applying with the smaller companies will typically render more beneficially, along the lines of employment, then with the major airlines.

Engineering

Aviation Engineering are positions that deal with aircraft structures, avionics, interiors, and electrical systems. People in this position may earn roughly $92,000 annually. The best opportunities to enter in this field are with companies that offer engineering and design services to manufacturers.

Aviation Sales & Marketing

This field is extremely competitive. However, the average sales manager earns about $97,000 annually and the average marketing manager earns about &108,000. Typical requirements include Bachelor or Master’s Degree in business, marketing, and aviation experience.

Avionics

Avionic technicians hold the responsibility of repairing and maintaining the aircraft’s electrical systems. They roughly earn about $50,000 annually. The highest paying industry is scheduled air transportation. However, aero product and parts manufacturing hire the most workers. Certified avionic technicians that are able to do some of the work of an A&P mechanic should have the best opportunities of all the mechanic positions. Top paying states are Connecticut, Hawaii, and Nevada.

Contract

Contract aviation jobs include technical positions, pilot jobs and contract mechanic jobs. Contract jobs are usually for a few months or less.

Corporate

Some of the corporate aviation jobs include corporate pilots, aviation mechanic, and flight attendant. Their salaries range roughly from $56,000 to $105,000. The cities with the highest salaries are Detroit, Savannah, and Milwaukee.

Government aviation jobs have a huge range of positions with federal and state agencies including FAA, NTSB, and Homeland Security. Government aviation jobs include engineers, flight test pilots, and safety inspectors.

Helicopters

Helicopter jobs include many positions: pilots, flight instructors, technical writers, quality inspectors.

Management and Executive

Management and executive aviation positions are located in all divisions of aviation. However, these jobs only make up a little over 5% of the available positions.

Military

With a military aviation job, the employer is a military branch or a private military contractor that works with the Department of Defense. Jobs with private military contractors are expected to grow due to the military tending to try the non-combative alternative and their need for technology.

Pilot and Flight Crew

Pilots are some of the highest earners in the country. Pilots in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. They earn roughly $117,000 annually. Flight attendants and the cabin crew earn about $43,000 yearly.

5 Tips for a Successful Career

The politics and the requirements for having a successful career are changing in the wake of the Internet revolution. Certain things such as privacy and separation of the work and home life are not as important any more. Many more people are performing well in careers that have less to do with their college degree and more to do with their personal skill set.

Below are five tips for a successful career in the modern era.

1) Love what you do

In times of recession, employers want to know that you want to be there working that job. The worst hire is the person who is doing it for the money.

If you limit yourself to apply only to jobs that you truly enjoy, you will find that your selectivity will pay off with a much more positive response. Even if you do not get the first job that you apply for, this positive response will keep you going until you actually land one.

2) Specificity in your skill set is an asset

In past generations, people had to wear many hats. However, now your resume should detail your specific certifications and skill sets, especially when you are dealing with the IT industry.

Employers do not want to train employees any more. They want to know that you can step right into the position and do the job at hand immediately. In order to make yourself the most attractive to employers, be specific in your presentation of what you can do.

There are direct paths to a successful career. But there are plenty of indirect paths, too.

3) Do not expect long term employment

You should begin looking for your next job from the second that you get your first one. No matter how good your performance is, the very task-oriented nature of the business market today means that an employer may let you go after a superb performance because they simply have no more need for your skill set.

4) Learn on the job

If you like a company and want to stay there, take it upon yourself to learn other aspects of the job and make yourself irreplaceable. You will need a great deal of self-discipline to do this.

The boss will not necessarily want to take the time to teach you other skills, but if he or she sees you taking this responsibility on your own, it will definitely be rewarded. This is really like looking for another job (tip 3) within the same company.

5) Learn the politics

The bottom line is that people want to work with people they like, especially in times of recession. Learn the internal politics as quickly as you can and find your place within it. Make it a point to make yourself likable.
