It is doubtful that the majority of individuals hold their dream job. Many take a job simply to provide for themselves and their family. Disheartening jobs have existed for centuries; take for instance the grim task of collecting bodies as the Black Death gripped Europe. For all the bad jobs out there though, there are dreams jobs that exist that seem to defy logic. As you sit in your cubicle typing away at your computer, think about what it would be like to hold one of the following five jobs. These are 5 of the best jobs in the world:
5. Bike-Rider Photographer for Google Maps
A lot of people have no doubt tried out the “street view” feature of Google Maps by now. It allows web users to “drop in” on any street across the globe to see what these foreign places look like. Many of the images were captured with camera and GPS equipment by vehicles, but Google Maps wanted additional images of historic and other important places that were not accessible by vehicle. Enter bicycle riders. Google Maps has hired individuals to trek across the French countryside on a tricycle with the same equipment to capture images of monuments such as Chateau de Versailles, west of Paris, and the Jardin du Luxembourg. What could be better than getting exercise, being outside, and trekking around France?
4. Candy Taster
There are few humans alive that don’t have a sweet tooth for some tasty treat or another. If you say you don’t, then you aren’t being honest with yourself. Given mankind’s affinity for sweets, could there be any sweeter job than being paid to test them? The job isn’t all fun and games as testers are expected to provide some valuable feedback. Matlow’s candy hired a 12 year old boy to be the company’s taste tester, and he returned their faith with accurate feedback on the taste and quality of the company’s various treats.
3. Professional Prostitute Tester
Okay, so not every dream job is family friendly, but how I imagine the number of men who would line up for this job may stretch around the globe. Madam Fiorella run’s Fiorella’s Companions in Santiago, Chile and needed help whittling down her list of potential escorts. Enter Jaime Rascone, who was given the enviable position of conducting “final interviews” with Madam Fiorella’s final six applicants. Rascone evaluates the talents of the final six and provides detailed paperwork to the Madam regarding their abilities.
2. Water Slide Tester
Believe it or not every water slide that is installed at resorts is tested for its fun factor. First Choice is an example of one resort company that has staff members devoted to testing their water slides. The gig may sound like fun and games, but the tester is also responsible for taking safety concerns into consideration while ripping through the twists and turns.
1. Paradise Island Caretaker
Mr. Southall’s job requires him to live in a three bedroom villa with a pool on Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef. In addition to acting as caretaker for the island paradise, Mr. Southall is required to blog about the area to promote it for tourism. Not a bad gig for $111,000.
