In today’s economy, holding a job can prove difficult. Jobs are scarce and some are not secure. Fortunately, there are several points you can consider in order to secure and keep a job. This tips include being on time for the job, going the extra mile and doing extra work, avoiding office drama and getting involved in your career.

Be On Time

It is important to be on time for work. Being late or tardy is a primary reason people are fired from jobs. A rule of thumb is to arrive about five to 10 minutes before your initial start time. Most people with jobs were hired because the employer believes that the individual was dependable and timely.

Be Flexible

Most employers are looking for people who are flexible with their schedules. If possible, try to work the shifts that are available instead of demanding a set schedule or weekends off for every weekend.

Go the Extra Mile

Going the extra mile can go a long way in this economy. This means you are willing to go above and beyond to get the job completed. Going the extra mile may mean working overtime, helping other co-workers with their work, or staying up just a little longer to make sure a company project is complete to perfection. This will also impress the boss, which in turn will help you keep your job.

Get Involved in Your Career

In most fields, like science and counseling, new research is conducted daily and new approaches and theories are readily available. It is important to attend seminars, classes, and other educational activities to increase your knowledge of what is happening in your field, career, or work industry.

Avoid Drama

In most work places, people may encounter drama or issues with other employees. Be sure to stay clear of the office gossip and drama. Drama, rumors and gossip is a sure way to lead a person on a path to be jobless.

Ask for Feedback

Asking for feedback is one tip that most employees never consider. This is because most employees assume they are doing everything correctly. As your boss for feedback, take the suggestions, and see it as corrective criticism to help you keep your job.
