How to write a resume for a job in science

If someone is going to interview for a job in the science world, they should include several important things in their resume. Because it is such a diverse field, it would seem that there would be several approaches to writing the resume, but basically they all use some of the same principles. Physicians, Lab assistants, and mathematicians can all use the same model and have an excellent resume.
A scientific resume should emphasize the fact that the applicant is someone who is curious. They have a thirst for the unknown. The resume should reflect that they enjoy asking questions and finding answers through scientific methods. They are logical and systematic when they are looking for the right conclusion.
It is important to add important information about personal leadership. Most people in the scientific field are usually a cut above and like to take the lead in almost any circumstance. They are confident and know what they believe and how they feel about most things. It is this leadership ability that usually leads them into the scientific field.
Research is something that is important in this field and it is essential to include data about research that has been done in the past. Exact examples are helpful and necessary to prove that this important element is part of the prospective employee’s personality.
Education is always documented with degrees and certifications. Dates and names of schools or special trainings should be listed in detail. This is very important because for a job in the science area, education will play a big part. It is important to be accurate and only list degrees that are completed. If someone was working on a BS degree and they are only two credits away, they do not have the right to claim that award. Most of the time, the new employer will verify this information.
Past experience is something that the new employer will be interested in. Add all jobs, no matter how minimal and even if they were not in the scientific field. They will want to see how long the applicant was employed and what their responsibilities were. At this point, it is a good idea to add who could be contacted for each job listed to verify the given information. They will call these references, so make sure are all phone numbers and addresses are up to date. It is often a good idea, to call some of the references and tell them, they might get a call asking for information. Most of them will be glad to have the opportunity to give a report and help with the job process.
The resume is one of the first steps to finding a good job. Sometimes it is a good investment to find professional help to make sure the resume look great and provides all the needed information. Never take shortcuts and make sure the resume portrays the true soul of the person applying. This might be the only chance to have the employer look at the qualifications and maybe offer the job.
