Too many people think that senior citizens are not able to contribute to the economy just as much as anyone else. The truth of the matter is that there are now more seniors on the job hunt than there ever has been. Considering this, those who do fall in this age group are going to want to learn how to write a resume for the modern economy jobs they seek.
It is simple to get started. Log on to a computer and pull up a Word document on which to work on. At the top of this document, enter your name, address, phone number, and any other contact information that may be important to a potential employer. If you are someone who has resisted the urge to get an email address, you are going to want to change that now. A lot of modern employers are going to use email as their preferred method of contact.
It is important to list all education on the resume, specifically the most recent educational accomplishments. It is important also to try to highlight any educational achievements that might be relevant to the potential job. Employers like to see that the person they are considering hiring is someone who has experience doing the kind of things that they are going to be required to do.
An employment history is important for this document. Not only is it likely that the employer will call some past employers as a reference, but it is also a good way to show the job skills that one has learned over the years. It is important to try to limit the number of jobs listed to 3-4. Never go back more than 15 years to list a job as the skills learned at those jobs will most likely not be as important anymore.
Some basic and relevant personal information may be a nice touch to add to the resume. This can be things such as hobbies and interests as well as the reasons why I certain job was left in the past and possibly even salary information. All of these things can be discussed in the resume so long as they seem to provide the potential employer with information that they may find relevant to this individual.
The references part of the resume is probably one of the most important parts. This is the part that will give the potential employer people to call when they need to know more about you. That is critical to them for examining your character as a person and as an employee. There should be at least two professional references and perhaps one personal.
Seniors are able to contribute just as much to the economy as anyone else when they are given the chance. The problem is that society often does not even bother to give them that chance. If we can turn this around, then more seniors will be filling more jobs and helping us all to grow as a country forward to a better day.
