Enjoying a successful career requires both dedication and hard work. Regardless of whether the job market is good or bad, there are several basic career tips everyone should consider to both achieve and maintain a successful career.

Start with a resume – A professional resume that accurately details your education, skills, background, and accomplishments is necessary before starting a job search and applying for jobs. Your resume is typically the first step to getting a job interview at a company, impressing the interviewer and hopefully getting a job offer.

Develop interviewing skills – To perform successfully on a job interview and convince the interviewer to hire you, you need to develop excellent interviewing skills. Always go into any interview well-prepared. Research the company. Be ready with examples of how your qualifications match the requirements of the job you are applying for. Impress the interviewer you are the best candidate for the job.

Nurture your career – Once you receive and accept a job offer, don’t stop there. To protect your job security and future career, you need to remain competitive and marketable. It is essential that you continuously upgrade your skills, your training, and also your resume.

Prove yourself – While on the job, contribute to your company’s bottom line. Go above and beyond your duties. Take on additional assignments. Avoid settling yourself into a narrow slot that discourages growth and quickly renders you unmarketable. Get along with your bosses and co-workers.
