When you fall in love with your boss

Your choice of career should be one that you love; loving your job means you are happy to wake up each morning and go to the office. This also makes you more productive, happier and less likely to suffer from unhappiness related to your job. Loving your job also makes you less stressed in the office.
However, as much as you may love your job, there are additional stresses that cannot be helped. Deadlines, clients that are difficult to work with and coworkers that push your buttons are not uncommon occurrences in the workplace. Depending on your method of handling this situation, you can either make it manageable or you can lose complete control of your job performance.
Another, less common problem in the workplace is your relationships. It is not uncommon practice for companies to instate a strict no dating policy between coworkers. However, many people choose to carry on relationships inside the office in a secretive manner. The purpose of this rule is to keep personal drama and feelings outside of the workplace in an effort to create a more productive and congenial work atmosphere in the office. Hard feelings between coworkers make the job difficult for everyone – not just the people involved.
To add more complication to the issue of office romance and relationships is your boss. While it is one thing to fall for a coworker and begin a secret – or public – relationship with a coworker, relationships between high powers and subordinates are frowned upon even more.
Falling in love with your boss means you could both lose your jobs. Even if there are no strict policies in your office, it is not generally considered okay for someone to date their boss. Your coworkers will feel differently about you; perhaps they will feel that you are receiving unfair advantages because of your relationship with the boss or that you are getting promoted because you are the boss’ favorite rather than because you earned and deserve the promotion.
Falling in love with your boss is career suicide. That is why you need to make a decision; quit your job and date your boss or risk losing your job by dating your boss. The former is a much better decision for those that are serious about a relationship; finding a new job is a far better idea if you want to date your boss than it is to date him while working for him.
When you realize that you are in love with your boss, it’s time to dust off the old resume and begin the search for a new employer. Take time to read your resume and to make appropriate changes to it. Since you were hired at your current position you’ve likely acquired several new abilities that prospective employers want to know you possess. Once your resume is up to date and free of errors, start sending it, along with your cover letter, to companies you are interested in working for so that you can find a new job.
